How to Prepare Baked Custard

Step 6: Distribute the custard mixture into 8-9 ramekins, with about 2/3 cup for 8 servings or 1/2 cup for 9.

Step 7: Top each custard with your preferred amount of nutmeg.

Step 8: Place 6 ramekins in a 9×13-inch pan and the remaining 2-3 in a 9×9-inch baking dish, removing 1 ramekin from each pan.

Step 9: Add boiling water until it reaches about halfway up the ramekins.

Step 11: Bake for 30-40 minutes for 9 ramekins, or about 45-55 minutes for 8. A sharp knife inserted in the center should come out clean; the custard should have a slight jiggle without appearing wet.
